Description
YEHUDA SHERLOCK AI is a high-capacity screening device designed to distinguish natural diamonds vs. laboratory-grown diamonds (HPHT/CVD) and to identify the main simulants, both in set jewelry and loose stones. Combines Yehuda's optical detection process with an optional cloud-based AI superstructure that augments captured test images with color-coded stone marking.
Main advantages
High screening throughput
- Up to 27 rings per test, or 20 rings on two rotating ring holders.
- Approximately 250 ct loose diamonds per measurement.
- Test time approx. 15 seconds.
Large inspection area for set jewelry and loose stones
- Visible control area: 10 × 15 cm (4" × 6")
-
Clearance height: 5 cm (2")
Positive identification CZ
Sherlock AI includes a dedicated mode for simulants in which cubic zirconia (CZ) – and some other simulants – exhibit a characteristic pink fluorescence, which helps to quickly detect CZ during routine screening.
- It works even without AI (visual interpretation directly on the screen).
-
Supports very small stones (up to approx. 0.01 ct) in simulant screening mode; AI can be used as an additional labeling layer when enabled.
AI assisted stone marking
- The AI feature highlights stones with color-coded markers according to classification, but it is explicitly listed as supporting information – manual interpretation remains primary.
-
AI requires a stable internet connection.
Cloud documentation + Back Office workflow
-
Save test results to Yehuda Cloud, complete the records with photos, certificates, SKU/internal ID and customer name and then in the interface Back Office search, filter and compare past tests.
- In the Back Office you can also view AI confidence level for individual stones – hover over the stone and the certainty value will be displayed.
Use
Recommended where you need quick screening to reduce risk before purchase, during acceptance, repair, resale or before shipment:
- jewelry retail (counter screening, buyout)
- goldsmith's workshops (receiving stones, customer jewelry, repairs)
- pawnshops / buyout
-
training and education (structured screening process)
Limitations and recommended practices
The manufacturer's instructions highlight these practical limitations:
- Designed for white diamonds in the color range D–K.
- Very low clarity (I2 and worse) can sometimes lead to unreliable results.
- Do not test fancy colored diamonds or colored gemstones.
- Loose diamonds can be tested in thin plastic bags (not recommended); not compatible with thick plastic or glass cover.
- Always clean stones and jewelry before testing (oil/fingerprints/dust may affect results).
Screening note:
In professional practice screening ≠ definitive identification. If the result, stone value, or level of risk requires certainty, it is appropriate to escalate to advanced laboratory methods/laboratory report.
AI Mode – Current Abilities and Limitations
Stone classification colors
- Blue = Natural diamond
- Red = HPHT (laboratory-grown)
- Green = CVD (laboratory-grown)
- Pink = CZ (other simulants)
- Orange = Moissanite
- Black = Undetermined – the system cannot reliably mark the stone; change position and repeat the test, and consider the result as requiring manual review/further verification.
False positive results
Yehuda defines a false positive as a situation where a natural diamond is mistakenly labeled as lab-grown, and states that approximately 2 % of natural diamonds may give a false positive result.
Practical factors reducing the reliability of AI
Unclean stones, overlapping loose stones, rings with side stones, strong reflections, placement in corners, tags/paper in the frame, etc.
Recommended measures: clean thoroughly, keep stones separate, repeat test/change position, move stones to center, remove "glowing" HPHT stones and test adjacent stones separately.
Yehuda App, Cloud & Back Office
Run the test in the app, save the test with your metadata, and optionally turn on AI.
The Back Office supports filtering, bulk deletion, test downloads, and AI confidence display.
Subscription
- The system cannot be used without an active subscription.
- $12.50/month
-
Includes app updates, ongoing AI development, and cloud storage for 1,000 test results.
The subscription is per account and covers up to 10 detectors and any number of users within the account.
Power and operation
Power on/off: press and hold the back button ON/OFF for 3 seconds.
